Giver/Hunger Games
The Giver and the
Hunger Games are strongly alike. They both involve a futuristic city that has
their differences and beliefs.
First of all they
both take place in a city that isn't connected to the outside world. These
places have very strict rules that the citizens obey, or they will be
punished. Lastly, these places both
contain strange people who are unknown to much. They are clueless.
Jolly Good Time (DWA)
District Writing
Assessment. How much I adore to write essays, especially one in which is used
for the whole teaching staff to see. Writing these assessments bore me, which
you may be able to acquaint. I feel as if I am a prisoner, one by one executed.
Executed with tediousness. To get to the point, I feel we students should have
the option to write a creative piece for our District Writing Assessment, not
the wonderful essay.
Imagination:
something us children are all born with. Imagination is the ability to form
images and ideas in the mind, especially those in which we have never seen or
experienced directly. Imagination doesn’t exactly scream essay. Creativity:
something this essay does not have. Creative is not an essay.
The jolly-good times
we children always had. I stare out the window, looking at the younger school
kids fiddling on the playground during recess. As for me, I am sitting in a
room on a computer typing an essay. How amusing. Writing essays: it blocks us children from exploring new
ideas. It blocks us from interacting. It blocks us from having enjoyment.
This essay isn't any
five, or even ten paragraph essay. This essay is a four. I didn’t choose to not
do a lot of paragraphs, nor did I rush. I'm not a lazy writer. This essay isn’t
extraordinary, but it sure proves a point. So when it comes to essays, good
luck having fun.
Normal
My
mind is timid.
Touch: only to feel the soft foam walls surrounding me.
Heart
is beating rapidly.
Trapped: I cant leave
this place. A man enters the room. Ball: I'm all as one.
"Hello
Dafida."
I
give no response. Growl: I give him a sheer smile of hatred. I shouldn't be
here. Normal: I am a normal person. I am
not crazed. Different: I am no different from the rest. I have no problems. Why
am I here?
"Dafida?"
I
can see something stick out of his right pocket. Gun: a gun could help me
escape. I am not crazed. Escape: I need to leave this place. This place is not
meant for me. Creep: I creep towards him, making no eye contact. His body
stands at rest, I make my move.
"Dafida!"
He
screams. Help: he is not allowed no help, for which he is ensnared in this
room. Ensnared like me. Sound: no one is able to hear the sound of the bullet
go through him. I crawl towards the door. Silent: I open the spongy door,
revealing an unrecognized hallway. Someone has spotted me.
Drop: down like a fly. The rest of them go down.
Laughter: I am soon to be free. They are all dead, dead flies. Flies: I killed
them all. All dead. Exit: I spot it. I
creep out the door and am free in the real world. Free: I am no longer trapped
like a freak. I am no freak, I'm normal.
United States of Europe
You've heard of the
United States. It’s a country in North America. It was started in the 1700s and
is a united nation. Europe, on the other hand, is many centuries old. What if
there was a United States of Europe? Would this be a smart idea?
Europe is a
continent full of many countries with a wide range of people. You have Germany,
a country known for its beer and sausage. Then theirs England, the polite
people with a background of royalty. You also have France too, with the great
Eiffel Tower. What would happen if this was all squeezed into one country? This
could lead into economic crisis, or economic skyrocketing.
If the United States
of Europe, or USE, were to happen, the military in this country would be very
strong. Every country in Europe has very strong military tactics. The Russians
are good with weapons and nuclear missiles, along with Germany. The population
of USE would be much greater than most countries, about 740,000,000 people.
This could affect the military in a strong way, but also may create great
problems. The countries in Europe have similar and different battle strategies. Germany may call for attack, while Norway may
announce for a stay put. This could lead to many arguments, and possibly a
civil war.
All this military
stuff is important, but what about the different cultures amongst Europe?
Europe is made of many different cultures and languages. The people in Europe
have different beliefs on how society should work. The people of England speak
fluent English. Germany is full of German speaking people. To top that the
Italian's speak Italian. What would be the official language. What would be
written on the road signs or the billboards? What would be spoken on TV? This
could cause many arguments. There is a bonus to this decision though. If
everyone spoke the same language, traveling amongst USE would be a breeze. No
learning twenty different languages.
What about laws and
government? The countries in Europe is different types of currency in their
money.
This could lead to a
big decision. People would have to get
new money, making their old money pointless. This leads to increase in taxes. A
good outcome on this would be for travelers through Europe wouldn’t have to
stop at an ATM every time they go to a new country. This would cause less
stress for the tourists.
Overall, making
Europe into one would be a terrible idea. Military, Economy, and laws would be
a mess. The outcome could affect Europe in many ways.

Let Go
Sacrifice. What is
it? Is it giving up a sport? Not eating your favorite food because your mom
doesn’t like it? Sacrifice is all of this. Many novels, including Ribbons, use
sacrifice as the main theme.
In the story, Ribbons, Stacy has a grandmother that
moves all the way from china to her home in the United States. Stacy has to
sacrifice many things in her life. She has to give up her room, for which her
grandmother to sleep in. She has to give up ballet, in order to pay for her
grandmother to move. She has to give up her favorite TV channels, for which her
grandmother cannot understand. Stacy revolts this, she has to let go a lot.
"John", in I am Number Four, is
number 4 of the 9 people from Lorien to make it to earth. Over the past ten or
so years, the Mongardians have been hunting down these nine, in order. Three
have been
eradicated. John is
next. Over the time of running and of hiding, John had to martyr many of his
homes, friends, and lifestyle. When he moved to Ohio he met a lovely lady, who
became his girlfriend. Suddenly he was in
danger, therefore he had to sacrifice his love and leave her behind.
"John" doesn’t like to sacrifice.
In the Hunger games, Katniss, a young girl
living in a future United States, must sacrifice in order to survive. For
example, she sacrificed her life and volunteered for her sister to take part in
the Hunger Games. Katniss also had to sacrifice her own life in order to receive
special healing cream during the games. She almost had to martyr her own life
in order to become a true victor.
When authors focus
on sacrifice, they write stories that are exciting and adventurous. We watch
the characters become brave, and we see
them grow. They must lose, in order to gain.

Burn
The child was weeping. Her bed was on fire.
She raced into the bathroom and filled a cup with water. As soon as she got
back, the fire was larger. Her whole room was on fire. She was home alone,
parents out at work. The child raced down the stairs, only to tumble on the
broken stair. She fell into a small puddle of water left over from her muddy
boots. The fire was trembling down the stairs. She tried to open the front
door, but it wouldn't budge. She heard voices. Voices coming from the other
side of the door. She screamed to them, as loudly as she could. The laughed. It
was a familiar voice. It was the neighbor boys. Those nasty kids set her
bedroom, or whole house, on fire. She sprinted for the backdoor. It was locked,
but from the outside. She was trapped. The windows were made bulletproof, for
she lived in the city. She tried to open a window, but they were sealed shut.
The fire grew bigger, and closer to the child. She was trapped in the corner of
the living room, hidden behind a large vase filled with counterfeit flowers.
The fire was wrapping her. She screeched in twinge. Then she didn’t make a noise,
for she was lifeless.
