Author's Note: In this cause/effect piece. Luke, a boy living an illegal life, is a third child. If he is caught, him and maybe even his parents may be sentenced to death.
In the book Among the
Hidden, Luke is faced with a great problem. He is an illegal third
child. During his later time in America, you were only allowed two children.
Any third children would be sentenced to death. Living under this harsh
government is unfair.
Dealing with this
problem can be rough, it truly effects the way he lives. Luke can not go to
school, can't go to the store, cant make friends, can't go by open windows, and
cant even use the computer. He has to live in a small room up in the attic of
his home. He is only granted a tiny window that has a slight view of the nearby
neighbors. He spends the majority of the day inside, and if he is lucky he may
be able to play in the woods with his brother's. He is Among the Hidden.
Luke's problem is
like Katniss's in the Hunger Games by Susan
Collins. She, alike Luke, lives under a very unfair futuristic
government. Both in which are poor and have strict rules. Although you can have
unlimited babies during Katniss's time, you are limited in food. Both Luke and
Katniss are poor. They both have to face a very hard cause.
