True Love

Author's Note: This is a creative piece about now a day love, gone far.

I ring the doorbell. I turn for a moment and  see a leaf run across the driveway. My mind is fixed on the knob as it turns open. Brad’s mother greets me with a soft hug.

“Brad’s with his eye doctor in the living room. He will be done in a couple minutes.” explains Brad’s mom. She gives me a smile and walks towards the kitchen. I remove my jacket and place it on the wooden coat hanger, probably crafted by Brad’s dad. I sit on the step and remove my shoes and place them by my jacket. As i turn the corner, my eyes meet Brad who is sitting at a round wooden table with his doctor. They are fixing with a rubix cube doing all these confusing color practices.

“Focus Brad.” says his eye doctor. I give a sigh. The doctor turns around and looks at me.

“Hello there. Are you the girl Brad was talking to me about?” says the doctor.

“John!” yells brad quietly at his eye doctor.

“I don't know. I am dating Brad though.” I explain.

“That's a nice dress you have on. Too bad Brad here doesn't know how gorgeous the color is.”

“Shut up.” yells Brad in a jokingly manner.

Brad is colorblind. He can only see black and white. Doctor John White helps him increase his vision on colors. They meet often, which sometimes can get annoying.

“My work here is done.” says Doctor White. I watch as he puts papers and a rubix cube in a brown leather briefcase. My mind is now focused on Brad who approaches me with a smile. I wrap my arms around his neck to give him a big hug. His cheeks turn peachy-red as always.

“Alana, are you hungry?” asks Brad’s mom from the kitchen. I can barely hear her. Brad’s house is quite large, almost twice the size of mine. It is home to just Brad and his parents.

“No thanks,  I ate before I got here!” I reply. I lied. I’m starving.
Me and Brad head towards the back door and head outside into the backyard. We walk across the yard until we arrive in the woods which leads to a small lake. Brad is quite taller than I am, about a head or so taller. He is quite athletic too, captain of the varsity volleyball team. He wraps hand around mine as we stare into the lake ahead. Our minds focused on the smooth sounds of the waves crashing the rocky shore.

“How are your eyes?” I asked.

“Better. I still have my color problems.” replies Brad.

“That sucks”

“My doctor is a pain. He is such a poop sometimes”

“Some people just need to be hit with a brick”

“For sure, you should try volleyball”

“I don't think so...” I suck at volleyball.

“All my teammates girlfriends all play volleyball, except Adam”

“Well cause he is actually normal...”

“What?”

“Nothing.... I said cause they are a good couple” Brad can be annoying sometimes. He thinks
he is the coolest, but he's not. My ex was more popular than him.

“I seriously think you should play volleyball. Tennis is stupid.”

“Shut up. No its not.”

“Admit it, its dumb”

“And boys volleyball is cool? Its only cool if you actually good.”

“I’m the captain of the varsity team!”

“You guys aren’t even that good! Your 2-11!”

“So what!”

“I think you need to pipe down! I’m leaving” I stand up and walk back towards Brad’s house.

“No wait! I’m sorry!” Yells Brad from behind. I don't look back. I walk towards the house in rage. I trip over a weed. My pants have mud all over them. I wish I had never met him. I walk in through the back door, greeted by Brad’s mom.

“Where’s Brad?” she asks.

“Shut up!” I yell. Probably wasn't the smartest choice. I'm responded by words that I’ve never heard come out of her mouth. I walk straight for the foyer and slip on my shoes and jacket. I hear Brad walk in the back door just as I step outside. Him and her mom are arguing in the kitchen. I laugh at the idea that just popped into my head.

I open the zipper of my backpack and pull out a small box of matches I had used for a science project. My mouth turns to a grin as I scrape the white film right off the match. Fire is burning on the tip of the match. I throw it on the wood paneling around the Dining room window. I light another and do the same. And then another. And another, until the box is no longer full of matches. I watch as the flames grow. I then hear a scream come inside. I go in opened garage and pull out a 5 gallon container of gasoline. I bring it next to the flame and watch as the oil rises the fire. I walk over to my bag. I walk down the driveway, not looking back once.

Point of Veiw

Author's Note: In The Hunger Games, Katniss is the point of view in which the story is told. The book could possibl be told in many perspectives, in which i give examples of scenes in which it is possible.

In the story, The Hunger Games, Katniss is volunteered to fight in the Hunger Games. She is a 16 year old girl who lives in a cruel government. One Capitol controls 12 outlined districts. Katniss lives in district 12, the coal mining district. She and another male tribute have been chosen to fight to the death in the live broadcasted show called the Hunger Games. The book is told through Katniss's point of view, which allows us to know things that others do not.

While Katniss is on her train leading to the capitol, she is fascinated by the technology of the people of the Capitol. For Katniss, she has never experienced the luxury of taking a real shower. As she sits down to eat dinner, she is amazed by the different foods she is presented. She has never experienced such wonders. For the people of the Capitol, her normal meals are never imagined. They are spoiled people and Katniss knows it.

As her train enters the Capitol city, she gets a glimpse out the window. Her eyes are wowed by the people and buildings. Once her train comes to a halt, she sees hundreds of people cheering at her with joy. To her they look like madmen. People are wearing colors that would never be imaginable for Katniss's wardrobe. She spots a dog with pink hair,  young boy with bright yellow, even a man with a purple afro. What are with these people?

While she is fighting in the arena with an a young ally, her mind is running wild. "Prime!" she yells as she tries to follow the screams. She notices Prime in a net. Searing the net open, a figure is spotted. Katniss shoots an arrow right into his heart. It is too late though, Prime was struck by him. Katniss is balling her head off. A young 12 year old girl has just been murdered. Back in the capitol the people are cheering, one less victor remaining. How could they think like this? Katniss has viewed this in a more natural way.

As Katniss rides home from victory, she has a thought. "What are these people doing to our nation?" Her mind is rolling. Only do the outlined districts see what Katniss does. It is up to her to change their view.

Theme

"Population Police!" screamed a man at the door. Luke did the usual and hid. His dad opened the door. His brothers Mathew and Mark walked in laughing. They always would trick Luke into thinking the population police were at the door. During Luke's ages, a few years into America's future, a law was passed on how many children you could have. If you had more than two children, you had to give the others up. Luke was a third child of his family. Many family's hid their third child, but the population police would try to catch them. Luke was a shy boy that had to follow strict rules. No going by windows, no going outside, no watching TV, no going on the computer, no using the telephone, ect. A new government neighborhood was being built next to his raggedy old house. He had to be very careful not to be spotted. Every day he would look out a crack of his window to count the people living in the new construction leave. It was one day he had counted everyone leave, but he seemed to spot a figure in the "Sports" family's house. If he wanted to check to see if there was a third child in that house, it would have to take true courage and bravery.

Before Luke could  even think, he dashed out his backdoor, heading straight for the Sport's house.
He didn't even check to see if anyone was watching. Just as he took a halt at the back door of the Sport's home.  It was similar to when Katniss, in The Hunger Games, dashed off her platform when she was given the "go".  Like one another, they were hesitant to be seen. It took true courage to do such a thing.

When Luke arrived at the screen door on the back of the Sport's home, he stopped. He tried to pull the door open, but It wouldn’t budge.  It was like the time when Katniss was trying to pull the rope off around he waist so that she could escape from the burning tree. For Luke, he was not in a deadly situation, unless he was caught. Luke decided to tear the door open and walk right in. He was met by a girl around his age.

He was startled. He started to panic, and out of no where asked if she was a third child. The girl, who's name was Janit, told him that she was. They then talked and started to bond. Jania had such a fun life, while Luke's was a boredom. It was like when Katniss and Peeta met up and fought together during the Hunger Games. In both of these situations, they got to know each other. Luke finally found someone with his kind of life.

While both of these characters, Katniss and Luke, had many similarities throughout their journey, they both found a way through their situations. They both followed the same theme of bravery and courage, while adding twists throughout each other's journey.

Mr. Mason's Jars, Part ll

Author's Note: In this prediction to the ending of "Mr. Mason's Jars" I made a predicted ending. Instead of having Tony die, I added a twist and made everyone else die. The beginning of this story was very different (weird), so i thought the author would make a twist to the ending. I have experienced this type of ending in a few stories, where the ending is so bazaar and would never be predicted by the readers.

"Ew, what's in this goo?" asked Troy.

"Just, um, garbage and slim." said Mr. Mason in a hesitant voice.

"Why'd you show me this?" asked Troy.

"I just wanted to show you. You are always acting curious and annoying." said Mr. Mason.

"You think i'm annoying?" asked Troy.

"What do you think. You don't shut your mouth in class!" yelled Mr. Mason.

"Cool it old man. I'm leaving." said Troy as he was walking out the door. Just as he was about to bend over and get a cold sip of water from the drinking fountain, Molly grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him away.

"Are you OK? What'd he do? Did he hurt you? Hello? Talk!?!?" yelled Molly vigorously.

"Hey Molly, shut up!" yelled Brad from across the hall.

"How about you!" yelled Molly.

"Chill baby, I'm fine." said Troy in a chilled voice.

"Don't call me baby." said Molly.

"Ok, baby." said Troy.

"Stop Troy, I mea..." said Molly as she fell to the floor.

"Molly!!!" yelled Troy. Everyone else in the hall started going down like dominos. Troy was freaking out. Why hadn't he fallen to the floor like the others? Just then, Mr. Morgan stepped in the hall.

"Hello Tony. Oh, why are all these kids "sleeping"?" asked Mr. Mason in a sarcastic voice.

"You monster!!!" yelled Troy. everyone in the hall could hear, except everyone was dead.

"I had giving you poisonous gas that kills everyone in the school but you." said Mr. Mason in a happy voice.

"Then why haven't you fallen to the floor dead?" asked Troy. Just then Mr. Mason had fallen to the floor. Troy was the only one up. The whole school was dead.

I Felt this was an accurate prediction. Throughout the beginning of the story, a lot of weird things were happening that just didn’t go as I expected. I felt the author would try and continue this skill throughout the rest of the story. I chose to do a very odd spin off.

Among The Hidden Character Development

Author's Note: In this book, Among the Hidden, Luke is an illegal child. During this time (the future) in America, you may only have 2 children. I would like to be graded for only reading on this piece.

A new government neighborhood was being built next to his ruggudy old house. He had to be very careful not to be spotted. Every day he would look out a crack of his window to count the people living in the new construction leave. It was one day he had counted everyone leave, but he seemed to spot a figure in the "Sports" family's house.

As he spotted the figure, that day he felt a little better. What if it was a third child? What was his/her name? He had to find out. The next week he tried to seek the figure walking in his/her home. He didn't see him/her, but he knew he/she was there. The next day he checked to see if everyone in the neighborhood had left to go to work or school. As he counted 28/28, he went downstairs to the patio door. He opened it up and printed for a tree in the Sports family's yard. He noticed only a screen door was keeping him from entering the Sports family's home. When he arrived at the door, he found that it was locked. He only had one choice, he ripped the screen right of the door. He took a step in the house. He heard a voice from upstairs. He was hesitant to move, but before he could think, a girl about his age appeared right in front of him.

Her name was Jania and she was a third child. They talked and talked about their lives. She showed him a chat room she had made for other third children on her computer. Luke was amazed. He thought he would never meet another third child. When he got home, he could not stop thinking about her. A few weeks later he met up with her and she was telling him about a rally for the third children that she was planning. They would march around the White House declaring for freedom. Luke was not interested. He thought it was to dangerous.

A month had passed and it was the day of the rally. Jania was gone and Luke was impatient. He stood shivering next to the radio. He was anctious to hear news about the rally. He didn't. There was no news on the rally. Was it over? He didn't know what to think. The next month he stared out his window looking for Jania. She never appeared. He was getting the feeling something was wrong. The next day he decided to go over to her house to see if she was there. Just as he stepped in the house, a man pointed a gun right at his chest. He asked why Luke was in his house and why he was here. Luke explained the whole story to him. He dropped the gun and told him who he was. He was Jania's dad. Luke asked where Jania is. He told him she was dead. Luke was devestated. They talked and talked. Jania's dad offered to give him an illegal ID. Luke was unsure at first, but he had to accept the offer. Luke told his parents the whole story that day. They were in chock. Later the next day Jania's dad came over to tell Luke's parents about boarding school and that he would pay for it. Luke's parents accepted. Luke was happy he was going off to boarding school and he knew Jania was proud of him.

Luke throughout the story reminded me of Katniss from the Hunger Games. They both cam from poor families that had to follow many laws. Luke and Katniss were shy kids that didn't really have a life. Both were living on a harsh government. It was until they had lost someone important to them, they would become very powerful people. Both characters developed into brave and strong people. They would soon make a huge impact on their country.
Author's Note: This is my Patriots Pen for the year of 2012. I had to respond to; "What would you tell the founding father's of America?" I had to respond in 300-400 words.

A lot has happened to America in the past two hundred years. We have been through many brutal wars, tough economy, change in recourses amongst our society, and much more. I have always thought “What if we could go back in time and change these happenings from occurring?” This would be a great opportunity to be able to tell our founding fathers what they should prepare for and what can be changed.

First, I would explain to them about the uselessness of slavery. Even to this day, there is still a problem with verdict about the color of your skin. Our founders need to stop this mishap and prevent the upcoming Civil War. Imagine if you were a slave. Being a slave is like being a farmers ox. By ending slavery earlier in America, our country will save a lot of money, but more importantly, many lives.

While I explain the issues on slavery to the founders, I will make sure to mention about our tough times with economy, and how to prevent this from happening. Face it, us Americans are lucky people. Most of us have lots of money to live freely. We need to use our money wisely and efficiently. The founders need to realize how jobs can affect our countries people big time. During the time America was started, about everyone had a job. Now, about eight percent of Americans are unemployed. The founders of America need to encourage small businesses, which could improve Americas unemployment rate.

After I give them the heads up on the future economy, I will inform them on the value of our natural recourses. America provides many recourses. The founders of America will need to know how to use our recourses wisely. Our problem today is the amount we take from nature, and use it in our society.

The tips I will give our founders of America should help them decide the laws for early America. These tips should help them stop wars among America, economic crisis, and wasting our natural resources. Our founders, our fathers, have done a great job in America. I sure am proud to be an American.

Cause/Effect

Author's Note: In this cause/effect piece. Luke, a boy living an illegal life, is a third child. If he is caught, him and maybe even his parents may be sentenced to death.

In the book  Among the Hidden, Luke is faced with a great problem. He is an illegal third child. During his later time in America, you were only allowed two children. Any third children would be sentenced to death. Living under this harsh government is unfair.

Dealing with this problem can be rough, it truly effects the way he lives. Luke can not go to school, can't go to the store, cant make friends, can't go by open windows, and cant even use the computer. He has to live in a small room up in the attic of his home. He is only granted a tiny window that has a slight view of the nearby neighbors. He spends the majority of the day inside, and if he is lucky he may be able to play in the woods with his brother's. He is Among the Hidden.

Luke's problem is like Katniss's in the Hunger Games by Susan Collins. She, alike Luke, lives under a very unfair futuristic government. Both in which are poor and have strict rules. Although you can have unlimited babies during Katniss's time, you are limited in food. Both Luke and Katniss are poor. They both have to face a very hard cause.
